Outdoors activities to help improve mental health
By Terry Birkett
One of my main hobbies apart from writing is gardening, sounds boring to a lot of people, but I like the idea of maintaining a nice garden. I enjoy keeping it nice and clean, I think fresh air and focusing on any outside hobby is key to maintaining healthy wellbeing. Walks and runs, as well as sightseeing in the countryside, are ways I enjoy the outdoors, I've always thought if the sun is shining make that day count because the rain is never far away.
I know, like many others living with mental health will, that it can sometimes be difficult to have the desire and determination in yourself to get outdoors but it's the little steps that make the big ones achievable. One of my thoughts of the day is wake up get ready and smile, think of good things you have in your life like family, friends and do what makes you happy, set targets and goals throughout the day. One of mine from the pictures was to tackle the garden it could be anything! Even a walk to the woods or down the seafront, it's amazing how energetic you feel in those surroundings. So take today and grab it with both hands and whatever you do, don't let anyone remove that smile that outdoors activities gives you to keep a healthy mindset.
Gardening, country walks, sports, walking the dog, runs, visiting the seaside, or even just taking a stroll to town it is still getting you out and about. It is so important to keep active and maintain a healthy lifestyle stay well and keep safe to all fellow care leavers.
