self-Isolation Boredom Busters
Written by one of our care-leavers
Brad Evans once said 'A lot of the major changes in the history of human condition have actually come in responses to pandemics'.
Even though we live in a very confusing time at the moment and will be confined to our homes for a while, I have listed 5 boredom busters you can try below!
1. Take up a new hobby: This is the perfect time to take up a new hobby and master it! Whatever your budget allows, there is something for everyone! You could practice still drawing, while watching a YouTube tutorial or you can order some arts and craft starter kits online.
I have recently taken up soap making, which as a young person I never thought I would be interested in. Now I make all my soaps at home, so even though there is a shortage in stores, I never ran out! You can see my home made soaps on Instagram: @ANJluxuryandhandmade
2. Work on your CV: There are plenty of online courses that have become available for free at the moment! Future Learn, Khan Academy or EDX have courses that can be used to enhance your CV! That way, you will be ready to go back to work after this is all over!
3. Make a homemade face mask/ lip scrub from ingredients in your fridge! It has never been easier to make home made skincare.. and with a lot of us staying in, it is important to treat ourselves! You can find lots of recipes online, including masks and scrubs made from coffee grains and tea grains! See below the recipe for the avocado face mask I made below!
4. Practice mindfulness: It is very easy to be stressed in such a time of uncertainty. Mindfulness has been proven to lower anxiety levels and increases immunity! There are a lot of free apps you can try such as Calm and Headspace. Maybe you can try this when you go for your one hour daily exercise?
5. Rest! Often, especially in London, we complain about being busy and tired all the time. Enjoy the freedom of being able to do whatever you want! Play your favourite game, read a book, learn to cook a dish you haven't before- the choice is yours!
More importantly stay safe and look after yourselves!
